Marketing on Facebook – Seriously?

In just a few short years, marketing on Facebook has become absolutely critical for businesses and business people. Why? Facebook has become “the place to be” online, not just for personal reasons, but for business reasons, too.

A lot has changed since Facebook began. It started as the place where we could find lost friends, communicate easily with our favorite people, and see footage of our favorite stars.

Now, Facebook is slowly turning into a giant mall. Like it or not, there are huge opportunities for every internet and network marketing business on Facebook. After all, through marketing on Facebook, you have access to over 700 hundred million potential customers.

Don’t believe that the only people on Facebook are lazy teenagers. Growing numbers of older people are utilizing Facebook for any number of motivations. Although buying something may not be their first idea, a number of people who use Facebook are beginning to use it just as they would the web in general – for help and information.

Marketing On Facebook: Where to Start

Using Facebook as a sales and marketing tool is smart business. There are several tips for getting traffic and directing it to your website to earn income.

First of all, though, let me make a quick disclaimer. Marketing your small enterprise via a social networking platform like Facebook demands a more serious article than I’m in a position to supply you with here and Facebook is constantly adding new features and changing its rules.

Generally, there are three ways you can use Facebook for yourself or your business. You could create and participate in Facebook Groups, you can make a fan page for your business, and you can use Facebook’s Events feature to publicize your activities to very well-focused market groups.

Marketing On Facebook with Groups

One way to try marketing on Facebook is to setup a “group”. A group is simply a Facebook-based mailing list. A group can be public or private.

As an example, you could setup a public Group for people who like “skin care” or “weight loss” or “positive thinking” and ask your friends to join the group. Then, people in the group could post to each other, while also receiving emails for each post made. Also, you could also create a private group for staying in touch with the team members in your business.

Groups are great tools for building your business. The challenge is you can spend a lot of time and energy just maintaining the group activity.

Marketing on Facebook With Fan Pages

A Facebook Fan Page is simply a “communication portal” for you or your business to build stronger relationships with your customers or prospects. Basically you create a free fan page, and ask people to “Like” the page to become a Fan. Then, when you post updates, your Fans see the updates in their Facebook news feed.

You can create an unlimited number of Fan Pages for free. So, one idea is to use different pages to aim towards different demographics. You can run contests, polls and reward your most loyal supporters too.

Remember, the root of any social media is “be friendly”. Therefore, you are likely to become constantly engaged with your fans, giving answers to questions and leaving interesting and favorable posts.

On a Fan Page, you might use your small logo so that your product is immediately identifiable. If you are an affiliate or niche marketer, simply feature a massive photograph of yourself. Make sure the picture is suitable. For example, if you sell swimsuits you do not need to wear a professional suit. Instead, have a tasteful picture of you wearing a swimsuit!

You should present yourself professionally and interact as much as you’re able to gain new prospects and Fans. You are going to share information with them by uploading images, clips, status updates, holding conversation and showing wall posts. First impressions are crucial – try to imagine that you’re in a huge celebration with thousands of important people.

Fan Pages can be seen to everybody online whether they are on Facebook or not. Sometimes this can be infinitely better than a static website for building lasting relations with your fans, readers or clients.

Marketing on Facebook With Events

Facebook Events allow you to post online or offline events that people can attend. These could be special customer appreciation events, networking meetings, special webinars or teleseminars, or even business-related meetings.

The idea of creating a Facebook Event is that you can invite your Facebook Fans and Friends to attend, and they can invite their own Fans and friends to attend, and everyone can respond with their commitment to attend (Yes, No, or Maybe).

By marketing on Facebook with Events, you can create viral exposure for your activities and thereby build a stronger community with friends and fans.

Remember this When Marketing on Facebook

Facebook Groups, Fan Pages, and Events all need visitors! Just like an internet website, you’ve got to keep adding articles or posts to keep your Fans’ attention. Facebook is a wonderful place for folks to ask questions about your product and post testimonials, but you have to stay engaged with people on a consistent basis.

You might find once your website has reached a certain number of visitors it could be hard to keep track of all the activity. Remember, you need to answer your fans questions in an efficient fashion but you do not want to be on your Facebook page 24 hours a day! This could easily occur when you start attracting fans from around the world.

So, work on building the fan base, and use the Facebook tools, but be careful about spending too much time online and not enought time on your business!
